Effect of anti-IL-4 mAb on mucin production.

Mice were injected intraperitoneally with anti-IL-4 mAb and control rat IgG. Sections of the lungs on day 14 post-infection were stained with H-E or PAS and observed under a light microscope. The proportion of mucin-producing bronchi (A) and the classification of mucin-producing bronchi (B) was calculated. Each column represents the mean ± SD of three mice. (C) Expression of MUC5AC mRNA in lungs was measured on day 7 after infection. Each column represents the mean ± SD of three mice. Experiments were repeated twice with similar results and the representative data are shown. *, p < 0.05.
