A Plaque burden assessed with the “en face”-method showed significantly lower plaque burden in the thoracic aorta in ampicillin-treated animals compared to untreated animals (p = 0.0285). B MDA levels measured at 16 weeks of age did not show any differences between the groups. C Histological assessment of the oil red O-positive area at the aortic sinus did not show any differences between the groups. D Histological slide of three representative aortic sinus lesions, demonstrating complex lesions with cholesterol clefts and necrotic cores (40X, Stained with Oil Red O).
