Welfare dependency in communities within Australia's metropolitan regions

This paper provides a classification of Australian communities according to their performance in the new global economy. it then examines the outcomes for residents of these communities according to their level of welfare dependency. An analysis of ratios of tax payments to welfare payments confirms that sharp divisions between regions are emerging in Australia. Copyright. Monash University and the author/s
