The letters of a Revolution: the implantation of the Republic in Portugal on October 5, 1910

Abstract The proclamation of the Republic in Portugal on October 5th 1910 closed a process that began at the end of the XIXth century, especially in its later years. The period is characterized by a condensation of a multifaceted context of crisis in which were inscribed the collapse of the constitutional Monarchy and the opening of an inexorable path leading to the Republic. This paper analyses the preparation of the revolution and the proclamation of the new regime in Portugal.
