The Ebbingtide Project is a case study of a theatrical adaptation. It investigates the intricate decision-making processes involved in transforming an original novel into a theatrical play. It delves into the reasons behind why adapters have been omitted from traditional critical frames of adaptation. It constructs an innovative model for capturing the long creative journey from novel to play, from ‘page to stage’. It situates the project within the deep bed of circumstance that gave rise to it. It describes the intimate experiences of the creative insider during the evolving work. It articulates the missing voice of the theatrical adapter.
