Taken during June 1969 these photographs show the quite modest Buddhist temple in the village of Beding in the Rolwaling valley. It dates only to the late 19th century and was home to a small community of about 15 monks. Its competitors were the small but highly active temples at Lambogar at the western end of the Rolwaling valley shown here in the first three photographs. Also depicted are three photographs of the shrine and stupa erected on the cliffside above Beding in front of a cave used for meditation by the 11th cent. Tibetan saint, Milarepa. Access to it was horrific to say the least.
