Dopamine cannot cross the blood-brain barrier as is, but with Si incorporated that may no longer be the case. In addition, the Si strategically placed would prevent conversion to Dopal (which is the undersired metabolite of Dopamine) following deamination with MAO. Some recent litereature suggests that Si containing compounds more easily cross the blood-brain barrier.
