An asterisk (*) represents P < 0.05, while “ns” represents a non-significant result (P > 0.05). Calculations of 〖CV〗* for each speed were based on 3-12 stride cycle durations depending on the species. Cost of transport for each speed was based on 3-15 trials depending on the species.
