MarsdenSimCardio is an open-source software package for modeling and simulation of cardiac physics. Cardiac mechanics depends blood, muscle and valves, and is driven by electrophysiology. We will incorporate models of each type of physics into a single solver. In addition, we will build image processing tools for patient-specific modeling, leveraging our previous efforts in our open-source package SimVascular. Fluid-structure interaction techniques will expand SimVascular to provide a multi-physics solver capable of large deformation ventricular flow and add immersed-boundary methods for valve simulations. We will devote careful attention to software sustainability and dissemination to build a growing user base and support research and education. These tools will enable researchers to investigate surgical planning, device design, diagnosis and fundamental heart-disease mechanisms.
