The purpose of this research was to explore how sharing information through social media can facilitate dialogue, learning and community engagement in the management of water resources. The intention of this study was to go beyond using social media to share information by investigating how information was shared before the use of social media was implemented in the Save Midmar Dam Project; the justification for and selection of suitable social media platforms; how information is shared; the type of information shared; the role which social media has played in the diffusion of information; the learning that has resulted, and how this may have facilitated behavioural change that would lead to improved management of water resources.
