Meridional cross section of a flow at Ro=-2.0, fo = 10 Hz. The upper left shows the angular velocity of the flow in a meridional plane rotating at 0.75 Δf relative to the outer sphere. The mean flow has been subtracted off in this figure. The latitudinal magnetic field at the surface of this plane is represented by the blue line. The upper right shows the (cylindically) radial velocity field in the same plane with the azimuthal magnetic field represented at the surface. In this figure the map includes the mean flow as well as the
fluctuations. The grey lines represent streamlines of the mean poloidal circulation. The map at the bottom represents the kinetic energy of the flow as a function of cylindrical height (z) and time. This is the same as Fig. 9a. (see ref) The vertical line indicates the time of the frame.
