Plot illustrates the type of region(s) of interest (ROI) used when calculating a laterality index from fMRI data by studies of language lateralisation published between the years 2000 and 2016. An LI can be calculated using voxels from a single ROI, or calculated using voxels across whole hemispheres. Alternatively, multiple LIs might be calculated across different ROIs, to compare regional variability in lateralisation.
