Ratite oil for Transdermal Breast Cancer Treatment

thesis
posted on 2017-06-19, 04:45 authored by USHA SUNDRALINGAM
The currently available treatment method (oral) for early stages breast cancer poses many side effects that results in poor patient compliance. Thus, it was hoped that an alternative treatment method (topically) with ratite oils for the treatment of breast cancer will be better or as efficacious as the orally administered drug, with much less side effects and hence help in raising patient compliance. In our studies, we developed a topical formulation with emu oil that was as efficacious as the current treatment in reducing the tumor volume in mice; with no side effects. Further, we also showed that emu oil on its own had anti-cancer activity.
