Progressive lens approach to variable focus without moving parts in electronic imaging systems

This is a short technical note describing a simple means for providing continuous variable focus without any moving parts by using a progressive addition lens (aka "progressive power lens" or simply "progressive lens") and a liquid crystal shutter.
