Nurse was also 'Rosie the Riveter'
This is a preprint of an article by Roscoe Barnes III that he wrote in July 2010 as a reporter for Public Opinion in Chambersburg, Pa. It features a profile of Jeanne M. Shives of Pennsylvania, who dreamed of serving her country as a nurse. Ms Shives recounts her experience growing up during the Great Depression. She recalls her work on the family farm, her stint as “Rosie the Riveter,” and the time she spent training for the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She also describes what it was like when the Second World War came to an end.
