Scanning electron microscope image of chromatographic paper Whatman N. 1 showing the tangle of mulitscale fibers and network of pores characteristic of cellulose. The paper sample was covered with a conductive layer of gold-palladium particles and observed on a Hitachi S2400 SEM microscope in the low vacuum mode.Magnification: 1,500X.
