The OSS Institute is jointly led by two NSF funded projects, the Institute for Sustainable Earth and Environmental Software (ISEES) and the Water Science Software Institute (WSSI). In the paper, the authors present an argument for a more comprehensive approach to training early career researchers in advanced computational methods. This type of approach will help to futher goals of generating more sustainable software in support of transformative science.
