This thesis explores the dynamics of the flow around a 180-degree sharp bend in a duct. The study is motivated by the fusion reactor cooling blankets, and its focus is to investigate the instabilities of liquid metal flowing around the sharp bend with and without a strong magnetic field. This work will develop understanding of the dynamics of the flow which can lead to enhancement of heat transport.
