This gate post, resembling the symbolic fascio littorio (the lictor's fasces), the principal motif of fascism, is at the entrance to a small memorial garden celebrating the dead from World War I & II. The garden includes a commemorative statue erected by the fascist government. The fascio littorio depicts a bundle of rods around an axe, originally carried by a magistrate’s attendant in ancient Rome.
