Social learning and the demise of cooperation. Shown is the median level of cooperation (0-20 MU) per round of the game for each treatment outlined in Figure 1. Empty circles refer to when we provided no information (a, N = 288). Solid lines refer to within-group effects (b, N = 48 in each case). Dashed lines refer to social learning treatments (c-f, N = 24 in each case). Social information leads to the demise of cooperation. In all information treatments, median cooperation declines to below 3 MU (15%) by the final round, reaching 0 MU in five of the eight social learning treatments.
