Constructing a feminist practice

thesis
posted on 2018-07-10, 01:54 authored by TRACEY DAWN LAMB
This research questions and considers historical structures of power and gender bias used within architecture, art, design, modernism and minimalism to marginalise and subordinate women from the canon. It draws upon various historical events which are expanded upon with reference to contemporary texts to take a feminist position. It considers the erasure of Eileen Gray from history and demonstrates how feminist art practices can incorporate notions of design, décor and craft as a response to the canons of architecture, modernism and minimalism. It is through reviewing these texts, movements and practices that connections are made to my art practice.
