Coded Modulation Techniques for Informed Receivers

This thesis proposes two new coding schemes that jointly encode a set of messages and enable receivers which have known part of the transmitted messages to retrieve the remaining unknown messages at the target bit error rate with lower energy requirement than those receivers without. The proposed schemes provide a new approach of code construction and the performance analysis in this thesis also provides a deeper understanding of how to effectively design coding schemes for the scenario where receivers may have known some of the transmitted messages a priori.
