Design inspired by Chevron design by Enid Marx, 1946.

This project is part of Ceres Artists in Residence at MoDA, which aims to use objects from MoDA's collections as a starting point for exploration of resist printing using natural dyes.

In these samples I explored overlaying different colours to obtain strong variations of colours and tones. I used small cut out paper stencils to create a camouflage effect to initial arrow design.

Photo, samples front left to right:

- Silk dyed in red cabbage. Design screen printed with Soda Ash.

- Linen dyed with pomegranate skins. Screen printed with buckhorn, indigo and acid citric.

- Wool dyed in red cabbage. Design screen printed with buckhorn, indigo, citric acid and madder.

The fabric was mordanted before the dyeing process.

Pastes were made using plant extracts and modifiers.

All design samples were screen printed by hand, then steamed to fix the dyes and washed.

After steaming and washing, the colours changed from their initial printed stage.
