Bio-logging and life-logging - monitoring or surveillance?
This is a pre-print for an accepted essay for the 'Machines & Things' issue of The Recompiler (https://recompilermag.com/)
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the publishing schedule changed and the kind folk behind The Recompiler gave all authors in this issue permission to release their essays on self-publishing platforms without compromising the issue. I decided to do that and to forego payment for the essay.
This essay is about the technology used to study pregnant wildlife and baby animals - which increasingly has equivalents that are deployed for domestic human use. But is consented for and empowering? Or is it for profit surveillance? It can be both.
