The way that research is communicated is changing rapidly, opening greater access for more people to more research. The CRC at the University of Nottingham works nationally and globally with researchers, funders, institutions and publishers, on challenges and exciting opportunities in opening access to research.

The CRC was founded in April 2009 as a University research centre for research and development work with local, national and international partnerships. The CRC has global impact in the R&D that it carries out in the development of projects and global reach in the provision of services in the field of research communications. The CRC builds on the work of SHERPA in helping the establishment and development of institutional repositories across higher education institutions in the UK.

The CRC houses a portfolio of open access projects, services and initiatives. These include the SHERPA Services for Open Access – RoMEO, JULIET, FACT and OpenDOAR - and the University contribution to European and international projects which have included NECOBELAC, DRIVER, OpenAIRE and Dart-Europe. Project and service funders include Jisc, HEFCE, RCUK, the European Commission, RLUK and the Wellcome Trust.
