Case Study: Forking a Major Altcoin

The Dogecoin cryptocurrency has experienced several blockchain forks to date, two of those instances intentional. This paper will describes the fork process and its risks, discuss the background that led to the fourth fork, the considerations in how it was executed, and explore the process followed to
minimise disruption.

This paper is intended for those advising cryptocurrency communities. Readers should be familiar with cryptocurrency terminology, but no in-depth technical knowledge is expected.
