A Strategic Research Initiative on the Effect of Plastic Weathering and Plastic Additives and Contaminants on Organismal Health

<p dir="ltr">UL Research Institutes’ Chemical Insights is engaging with Duke University School of Medicine to determine how plastics and plastic additives and contaminants (PACs) impact health. As part of the UL Research Institutes’ Discoveries in Safety Grants, researchers at Duke University School of Medicine will create a research platform that combines environmental weathering of plastics with a downstream analysis of these plastics and leached PACs. Data analysis will be used to determine the impacts of mixtures of PACs on gene regulatory networks. This research initiative will determine the effects of weathering on plastic and PACs, identify food packaging as a potential route of exposure for plastic and PACs, and determine the biological consequences of these exposures.</p><p dir="ltr"><b>Research partner:</b> Duke University School of Medicine</p><p dir="ltr"><b>Technical Bulletin 800</b></p>
