dataset
modified on 2021-06-02, 04:26 The dataset consists of MNIST digits set on either noisy backgrounds,
with noise a Gaussian random variable, or MNIST digits set on a more
naturalistic background from the CIFAR-10 dataset. A parameter that
makes the task more difficult is digit transparency; as we increase
transparency, the background interferes with the digit and the identity
of the digit becomes more ambiguous. The goal is to perform image
classification so that neural networks (NN)
correctly identify the MNIST digit despite the different backgrounds.
