Proof-of-donation

Proof of donation to British Red Cross. 

In April, July and October 2022 (pilots) and November 2022 (main study) we collected data in a decision-making experiment on Prolific. Participants could earn a bonus payment for themselves, and for a charity (the Red Cross). Based on decision in the game, some payoffs for the charity were negative. We summed all payoffs for the charity (ranging from negative 2.50 to positive 0.50) over all 1824 participants, which results in a negative payoff of 12.30 pounds. 

Therefore, we reduced the scheduled donation of 100 GPB by 12.30, resulting in a donation of 87.70 GBP.
