Webinar conducted on May 12, 2020 for NIH-funded researchers on using the NIH Figshare Instance.

If you are an NIH-funded researcher, or in a lab that has NIH funding, join us for this webinar to learn how you can quickly and easily share the products of your research including datasets, code, and multimedia files to increase the impact of your work. As part of the NIH Strategic Plan for Data Science (https://datascience.nih.gov/strategicplan), the NIH Figshare Instance (https://nih.figshare.com/) offers a free generalist repository resource for uploading datasets and making them freely available for other researchers to use. The NIH Figshare instance can also be used to share NIH-funded COVID-19 research, which will then be discoverable on Figshare’s COVID-19 repository as well (https://covid19.figshare.com/).

Data submitted to the NIH Figshare instance is reviewed by an expert on the Figshare team for file verification and description completeness in order to maximize discoverability and reusability in line with the FAIR data principles (https://www.go-fair.org/fair-principles/) - findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.

The NIH Figshare instance provides NIH-funded researchers the following:
● The ability to self-publish any data type in any file format
● Support for large datasets with initial storage of 500GB and more available upon request
● API for file upload and access
● All data assigned a citable NIH Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
● All data associated with a license for reuse
● Ability to link data to grant information and associated publications
● Open access to all published data
● Data indexed in Google and discoverable across search engines
● Usage metrics – including views, downloads, citations, and Altmetrics – tracked openly
