This is a part of prospective observational (non-interventional) study of community-acquired sepsis and severe sepsis in Sunpasithiprasong Hospital, Ubon Ratchathani province, northeast Thailand (NCT02217592). We prospectively enrolled adult patients (age≥18 years) who were admitted with a primary diagnosis of suspected or documented infection made by the attending physician, were within 24 hours of hospital admission, and had at least three sepsis diagnostic criteria documented in the medical record. Blood was stored and later tested for dengue PCR assays.

The manuscript reports the outcomes of adult dengue patients prior to the completion of the entire sepsis study because we believe that our study would have clinical implications for the management of patients presenting with sepsis in tropical countries where dengue is endemic.
