Data and script for "Fireworks and ruffled feathers: L-band radar quantifies major disturbance of urban birds" submission to Biology Letters

Data Description:

Data files contained in the "Tracks" folder of the "BL_UrbanFireworks" top folder consist of track values obtained

from an L-band staring radar positioned near the city of Birmingham, UK. For the track files without the "Mode_sum"

in the title, each line gives information for a single detection point. Multiple points then make up a single track

(e.g., there are 699 detections for the track "TP-2021-09-29-08-11-17_2021_10_03_240000799_ID11408612"). The variables

are detailed below:

- "steps": The number of detections making up the unique track

- "ID": The unique track identifier

- "speed": The aerial velocity (m/s) of the track at that detection point

- "designation": The designation given by the radars onboard classification

- "AG.m.": The above ground height (m) of the detection

- "Combined.Time": Not used

- "Second": The second of the time of detection

- "Minute": The minute of the time of detection

- "Hour": The hour of the time of detection

- "Day": The day of month at the time of detection

- "Month": The month of the time of detection

- "Year": The year of the time of detection

All track files with "Mode_sum" within the title are made up of:

- "Mspeed": The mean aerial velocity (m/s) of the track across detections

- "des": The designation given by the radars onboard classification across the detections (mode)

- "steps": The number of detections making up the unique track

- "ID": The unique track identifier

- "AG.m.Min": The minimum above ground height (m) for the track

- "AG.m.Max": The maximum above ground height (m) for the track

- "AG.m.M": The mean above ground height (m) for the track

- "Time_start": The time of the first detection in the track. In the format "HHMMSSPPP", where P donotes milliseconds.

- "Time_end": The time of the last detection in the track. In the format "HHMMSSPPP", where P donotes milliseconds.

- "Day": The day of month at the time of detection

- "Month": The month of the time of detection

- "Year": The year of the time of detection

The R script, "FireworksMS_script", can be used to repeat the analyses and produce the figures within the manuscript.

To utilise the script, ensure all packages including at the top of the script are installed. Change the "setwd()" command

to the location of the folder (this will change automatically should you load the script from the folder).

The function, "rolling10plots_v02.R", is used to produce the 1 minute rolling plots.
