Natural Vibration Modes of the Head and Brain
The data included herein illustrates the vibration modes associated with the first twenty natural frequencies of the head and brain. The vibration modes and associated natural frequencies were calculated by finite element method modal analysis on the THUMS V7 head model using the commercial solver LS-DYNA.
Modal analysis was performed on three head models with dimensions of a 5th percentile female, 50th percentile male, and 95th percentile male. The values of the first twenty natural frequencies can be found in the file named "Natural Frequencies.txt". For each natural frequency, the associated vibration mode is described by the remaining files in the repository. Three animations are included for each vibration mode which illustrate the deformation behavior of the brain tissue in the coronal, parasagittal, and transverse planes, respectively. An illustration of the section planes can be found in the file named "Head Section Planes.png".
