The project uses a extensive archive of nominal censuses (listas nominativas de habitantes) to propose a model of population dispersion for point-based geographical datasets. It uses the town of Curitiba, a relatively isolated frontier settlement in southern Brazil with significant demographic growth in the final decades of Portuguese colonization. The materials includes several visualization of population distribution and dispersion, including data for free and slaves men and women.
The data accompanies the monograph "Cartografando os índividuos no passado colonial: o uso do Historical GIS na reconstituição da distribuição populacional no Paraná Tradicional (1765-1830)" presented to the History department of the Universidade Federal do Paraná as part of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor in History (2009).
