Supplementary information for Lee, Eglen and Wong manuscript.

This page shows some examples of the development of synaptic connections in the Hebbian model using retinal inputs at different postnatal ages, and with/without inhibition (competition parameter always present).

In each case, the model has seven ON (green) and seven OFF (red) retinal ganglions cells (RGCs) converging onto one lateral geniculate neuron. The strength of the connection between a RGC and the geniculate neuron is proportional to the width of the line. When a cell is active, it is coloured white.

The images are in mpeg format, which can be viewed in most modern browsers. (For example, they can be viewed with Apple's QuickTime 5 on PCs and Macs. On Unix, they can be viewed with xanim.)

The OFF cells win the competition.

At this age, there is no segregation.
