We release two datasets related to two crisis-management topics:

  • Ebola: West African Ebola virus epidemic is the most widespread epidemic of Ebola virus disease. The epidemic began in Guinea in December 2013 and lasted for two years. World government agencies report more than 11,295 deaths. Dataset was collected with Twitter API from July 29th 2014 to August 28th 2014 using "ebola" as a keyword.
  • Sandy: Hurricane Sandy was the most destructive hurricane in United States history with more than 230 deaths and 75 billion  of damages. This dataset was collected from 29th October 2012 to 31st October 2012 using the 3 keywords: "sandy", "hurricane" and "storm".
For each topic, we release 2 datasets, respectively including:
  • The whole set of tweets collected from the Twitter REST API (ebola_full and sandy_full).
  • A cleaned version of the former dataset (ebola_cleaned and sandy_cleaned) in which we filtered through a classification algorithm non-topically related tweets as explained in our paper.

In accordance with Twitter's Terms of Service, we only provide identifiers of tweets. In order to "hydrate" those tweet identifiers, or in other words, to collect the actual tweets, you could use our Tweeset tool.
