The COVID-19 pandemic offers an opportunity to improve the interoperability of related participant level data, metadata, and platforms or data visiting approaches to maximize data utility and reuse. Pooling data at the individual level maximizes the potential for
public health-related gains by increasing statistical power, preventing unnecessary research, and fast
tracking public health, clinical, and pharmaceutical innovations. The European Comisssion hosted a series of workshops to develop recommendations for short and long term investments to advance the FAIRness of COVID-19 research Consortia and platforms, registires and other efforts to make data avaiable in keeping with GDPR and ethical concerns related to data reuse.
