Stacey Martin

PhD student (Earth sciences; Environmental sciences)

Canberra, Australia

My research seeks to develop and/or apply modern techniques, sometimes in conjunction with sparse instrumental records, to observations extracted from historical materials to quantify and interpret earthquakes and tsunamis that pre-date the modern era. The importance of the systematic and critical investigation of historical and early-instrumental earthquakes is necessary to correctly estimate modern seismic and tsunami hazard. The focus of my current research is the region of the Indonesian Archipelago. My previous work and publications have dealt with earthquakes and tsunamis in the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and the central United States and California.
