Sandra Smyth is a Doctor of Technology from Purdue University and Chief Technology Officer certified by UPenn-Wharton Executive School. Her research focuses on integrating AI and Explainability with organizations' governance and operational procedures based on EU legislation such as the GDPR and the AI Act, and standards, guidelines, and frameworks such as the Japanese ML Quality Management Guideline, NIST AI RMF 1.0, and ISO/IEC 42001.
Dr. Smyth is a STEM professional who specializes in leading Digital transformation and Automation initiatives. She has a 26-year career in IT, during which she has held senior management positions in software development for utility companies (from 1998 until 2014) and in the manufacturing and healthcare industries (from 2015 to the present), including J&J, Zoetis, Siemens, Siemens Healthineers, Thermo Fisher, Medicago, and Resilience.
Dr. Smyth has successfully delivered complex and innovative digital solutions for various clients in regulated environments such as utilities, healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. Her experience includes leading the design, development, implementation, deployment, adoption, and maintenance of IT solutions for large-scale manufacturing companies.
Dr. Smyth has a proven track record of managing multiple vendors and stakeholders, ensuring data integrity and alignment with governance frameworks, quality, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle. She has also provided consultancy services, advising and supporting several high-profile agile, risk, and change management projects.
Dr. Smyth received a BS in Systems Engineering and an MSc in Business Administration from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia. She holds multiple international credentials, such as PMP, RMP, and ACP from PMI, CBAP from IIBA, CTFL from ISTQB, ITIL from EXIN, and the most recently obtained Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional Certification from the IAPP.
