Dr (Human geography not elsewhere classified)

Available for freelance work, in return for money

I am a recovering academic, having crashed out of the British university industry after finally working out that it was: a) terrible for my mental health; b) bad at everything it set out to do; c) of only marginal value to the pursuit of human good; and d) beyond redemption. My interest is in statistics and statistic-making as a social process - trying to think through what it is that we do when we count. The statistics I've mainly had cause to look at are around well-being and subjective well-being, so I also write as a critical voice on these particular fads. This repository started to hold everything I'd been publicly-funded to do, which includes conference papers. Those are thoughts in progress, so are of very variable quality. As, in fact, is the rest of my output, but the papers at least have been through peer review. Final versions of the papers and chapters appear on the websites of their publishers, and in many cases are free to read in full.
