Mary O'Neill

Senior Lecturer in Fine Art (Creative arts and writing)

Leicester

I am an artist, writer, and educator. My research is interdisciplinary and focuses on contemporary artworks as a means of discussing significant cultural issues. From an original interest in ephemeral art and notions of mortality and immortality, representation of the dead, mourning, loss, bereavement, and memory in contemporary art, my practice and research has developed to explore the loss of intangible culture. I am particularly interested in how we collect and display the past and how that influences our view of history and the implications that has for how we will be viewed in the future. My publications include both academic texts and fiction and I have exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally.
