Manuel Muriel

Economist (Economics; Education)

Lepe (Huelva), Spain

I got a European PhD of Economics at the University of Seville in 2011. Also, I spent a period doing research at the University of Sussex where I became an Associate Tutor in 2015. My research project “Institutional foundations of heritage railroads: the high cost of low trust in the preservation of merit goods”, Journal of Economic Issues 51(3), 2017, is an empirical inquiry into the nature and causes of the preservation and reuse of railway heritage from a comparative standpoint: it tries to answer the question of why this heritage is not preserved in Andalusia. My essay “Historical background of Andalusia’s unemployment: an evolutionary approach” is an epistemological endeavour aimed to generate institutional knowledge from an empirical case. I brought together elements such as violence, landownership, trust, and the role of the state from the point of view of Evolutionary Economics.
