Beker Ahmed

lecturer (Health sciences)

Ethiopia

I am Beker Ahmed, I’m 29 years old. I was born in small village called Cheffa. As a kid, I grew up looking after animals. I didn’t know whether I would end up having Master Someday later in my life. Looking back and describing my life I see all the ways in which I am disadvantaged due to my family socioeconomic status. Three things are important to me: my family, success and leaving a legacy. Because of my background, I put these three key elements first every day to be successful. First of all, my family is the most important thing in my life, especially my mother. The meaning of family may be different for everyone, but for me, family is life. My father died when I was a child. As a child, I often compared my life to that of my peers; I've often thought about all these what-if scenarios and thought that if my father were here, I could be just like all the other kids. I wouldn't be here without my mother. Success is also very important to me.
