This dissertation delves into the crucial transformation of SM Street into a pedestrian-friendly commercial avenue. With urban areas increasingly prioritizing pedestrian-centric spaces, this study scrutinizes the potential strategies, challenges, and benefits associated with reconfiguring SM Street in Kerala to enhance its walkability and commercial appeal. The research employs a multifaceted approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Through surveys, interviews, and urban analysis tools, it examines the existing infrastructure, pedestrian patterns, commercial activities, and community perspectives. Furthermore, it investigates successful international precedents and best practices for creating vibrant pedestrian-friendly streets. This research paper examines the walkability of an urban area within Kerala by investigating the factors that influence it.
