The rapid evolution of social media platforms has transformed the way information circulates during political and humanitarian crises. Platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram provide vast amounts of real-time data, offering both opportunities and challenges for early warning systems. By leveraging advanced analytics, natural language processing, and machine learning techniques, real-time social media monitoring can help identify emerging threats, track public sentiment, detect misinformation, and support timely intervention strategies. However, the unstructured and multilingual nature of social media data, coupled with the high volume and velocity of information, presents significant processing and accuracy challenges. Furthermore, the ethical considerations surrounding data privacy, surveillance, and bias in automated systems necessitate careful policy and governance frameworks. This article explores the methodologies, technological frameworks, and applications of real-time social media analytics for early warning in political instability, humanitarian disasters, and conflict situations. It emphasizes how integrating computational intelligence with human oversight can significantly enhance situational awareness, improve decision-making, and ultimately save lives.
