A 1/28th 350MW scaled High Temperature Gas Reactor test facility was constructed to simulate depressurized loss of forced cooling (DLOFC) accident scenarios. Temperature, pressure, and oxygen concentration data collected during the experimental campaign provided insight to the mixing/stratification phenomena that occurs during the entirety of the DLOFC process. The test facility was replicated with system code and computational fluid dynamics using RELAP5MOD3.3 and COMSOL5.6, respectively. Leveraging boundary conditions and semi-empirical formulations from experiments, the test facility was digitally replicated and simulated results were compared against test data.
