Future Housing in Vanuatu: A Design Research Approach

This research explores housing in Vanuatu through an integrated design research approach grounded in engaging with local people and their living environments. Multiple engagement and design activities contribute to the formation of a unique design research approach. The approach enables the development of housing design strategies, providing practical design knowledge for local audiences. Additionally, the methodology developed serves as a precedent for place-specific participatory design research that can be adapted to suit other Pacific Island countries and broader regions. This study advances design research that prioritises place and local people in housing outcomes.
