Cyber-fpi: Kontestasi Identitas Nasional dan Identitas Islam

This thesis analyses the contestation of signifying practices surrounding FPI in its relation to the discourse of Islamic radicalism and the construction of Islamic identity. Analysing the textual and visual argumentations on fpi.or.id, the articles and comments on three online media: vivanews.com, tempo.co, and detik.com, this thesis explores identity construction and discourse complexity. The result shows that the discourse of Islamic radicalism and the existence of FPI in Indonesian public space are complex. The complexity is related to the contestation between national identity and Islamic identity. This complexity occurs both in
offline and online context.
