To increase our understanding of how snake venoms cause paralysis and the effectiveness of antivenom as a treatment, we tested the ability of antivenoms to reverse the paralytic effects of three Asian cobra venoms. Venoms can cause paralysis by targeting the nerve or the muscle to block their communication. We can categorise venoms based on where they act, and then investigate the effectiveness of antivenom against different types of paralytic venoms. We showed that antivenom can reverse the paralytic effects of the three Asian cobra venoms tested.
