A Cosmic Odyssey: The Lovecraftian Construction of the Epic

It could perhaps be theorized that a culture’s roots lie in its tales of Gods, heroes, and Monsters. Certainly the foundations behind many of the world’s civilizations are intertwined with such stories. Creation myths give way to accounts we deem fantastical in nature, sagas that portray divine wars fought by opposing pantheons, or journeys by humans inspired to do so in their name. It is through mortals that the structure of these narratives become truly epic, the word itself reigning as the Epic.
